The goal of this project was to showcase the story of Merz Apothecary’s 147-year-old business and incorporate it into the content marketing for their e-commerce site, Smallflower. We created a brand story, handling everything from pre- to post-production.
The Challenge
The marketplace is crowded, and it’s particularly difficult for e-commerce businesses to compete with Amazon. Many of Merz Apothecary’s products are sold by other retailers, but they believe more people want to buy from businesses with unique stories.
They wanted to tell their customers that when they order a product, it’s coming from a 147-year-old store in Chicago. We needed to tell that story through video.
The Process
We scouted the store, experienced it, and spoke to the Merz team, including Greta Honold, the marketing manager, and her father-in-law, who currently runs the store. We worked closely with Greta on creative direction and shot the video on-site.
Our team brought in our crew and equipment. The only thing we didn’t handle was the voiceover. Greta’s husband, a sound engineer, recorded it, and the voice talent was Greta’s father-in-law, the CEO and star of the video.
“They were great at communicating and organizing. The team met all the deadlines; we didn’t have complaints. JV Studios was very patient and helpful; we never felt pressured or rushed by them, allowing us to focus on our own tasks without the stress of tight timelines. Their supportive approach fostered a collaborative atmosphere, which ultimately led to a successful outcome.”
